Roles & Permissions

Learn how to manage team members, assign roles, and set permissions to control access to devices and features within Level.

Updated over a week ago

Build a team and assign them roles and permissions.

Level allows you to add team members to your organization at no additional cost. Assign team members to specific rules and give those roles permissions to have full control over what devices your team members manage.

Invite new team members

To view or invite others, click on your name at the top right of the Level app and choose Team. The team page lists all accounts in your team along with their roles.

The + icon above the user list brings up the window to invite other members to Level. Enter the email address, select the role, and click Send Invitation. An email will be sent inviting them to setup a Level account.

Roles

Roles are the way to grant or deny access to custom groups. There are two default roles on every new Level account:

  • Administrator: This role does not show in the roles list and cannot be modified. It has access to all custom groups. The Administrator role is the only role that has access to the billing page.

  • Tech: This role has access to all custom groups. It can be renamed and the group access can be modified.

Roles only restrict which agents are visible based on group, they are not used to limit what type of actions can be taken on a given agent or group.

In order to create a role, click on your name at the top right and select permissions. On the permissions page select Create Role and give it a name. Once the role is created and selected, the list of group permissions will be revealed on the right.

By default, a new role is granted permission to all groups. In order to remove a group, uncheck the blue box next to the group. Checking or unchecking a parent group will check/uncheck all sub-groups inside the parent group.

To the left of the blue checkboxes is a column that contains pairs of green arrows in a circle. This icon represents the option to include/exclude all future sub-groups that might be created. For example, if the icon is green on a group, then any future sub-groups created under that group will be visible to this role. However if the icon is grey, then future sub-groups will not be visible for this role.

In the image below, the Engineering group will be granted permission to any future sub-groups created under Child Group 1, but not to future sub-groups created under Parent Group.
