SMS Alert Opt-In and Consent

Mis à jour aujourd’hui

Introduction

Level can send SMS notifications through the Send SMS action in automations. This article explains how those messages are sent, who receives them, and how recipients can opt out.

How It Works

Level doesn't send SMS automatically or on its own initiative. Every SMS comes from an automation your team configured with a Send SMS action. The only way a phone number receives a Level message is if someone on your team entered it into that action.

Your team controls everything: which numbers are notified, when, and what the message says. Level sends no marketing or promotional messages.

Setting Up SMS Notifications

ℹ️ NOTE: Message and data rates may apply to recipients depending on their carrier plan.

  1. Open Automatisations and open an existing automation or create a new one.

  2. Add a Send SMS action.

  3. Enter the phone number(s) to notify.

  4. Write the message body.

  5. Save the action.

When the automation runs and reaches the Send SMS step, the message goes to the numbers you entered.

💡 TIP: System variables make SMS messages more useful. Including ##{{device_name}} or the alert type in the body means recipients know immediately which device triggered the message — no guessing.

Example Messages

  • Alert: Server web-01 is unreachable as of 10:32 AM UTC. Engineers have been notified.

  • Resolved: Connectivity to db-cluster has been restored. Services are operational.

Opting Out

Recipients can stop messages at any time by replying STOP to any Level SMS. The number is immediately unsubscribed and won't receive further messages.

To resume notifications for that number, a team member would need to re-add it to the relevant automation action.

HELP Replies

If a recipient replies HELP, they receive:

"This number sends automated alerts you configured in Level. For assistance, email [email protected]."

FAQ

  • A number is getting Level SMS messages but I don't know why. How do I trace it? Someone on your team added that number to a Send SMS action in an automation. Check your active automations for any Send SMS steps and look at the numbers configured there.

  • Can a recipient opt back in after replying STOP? Carrier-level opt-outs are handled at the messaging network layer. The recipient may need to text START to the same number to resubscribe, depending on their carrier. Your team would also need to confirm the number is still in the relevant automation.

  • Does Level ever send SMS to numbers we haven't entered ourselves? No. Level only sends SMS to numbers explicitly entered by your team in an automation's Send SMS action.

  • Is there a cost to send SMS through Level? No, Level doesn't charge for SMS messages. Although, we do cap the number of messages that can be sent per account per month. Reach out to support for details. Recipients may also incur standard message and data rates from their carrier.
